You are reading Elemental Science’s Product of the Month ~ History of Science which appeared first on Elemental Blogging.
Welcome back to the Product of the Month by Elemental Science!
Today, I want to share with you the details of our newest series, History of Science. This series uses biographies of scientists as a springboard for more relaxed approach to delving into the principles of science. The first unit of the series, which is on Galen, is currently available at our CurrClick store. You can view a sample here.
What are the key features of the History of Science series?
The History of Science series teaches about the major discoveries of science through the scientists who made them. Each unit is designed to be a gentle approach to homeschool science education based on the Unit Study method suggested in Success in Science: A Manual for Excellence in Science Education by Bradley & Paige Hudson. Each guide…
- provides comprehension, discussion and worldview questions, including the possible answers, to use along with a living book on the scientist;
- gives step by step instructions and a grading rubric for writing a report on the scientist being studied;
- details projects & experiments as well as coordinating websites to enhance your studies;
- includes a test for you to use at the end of the unit;
- contains student sheets and templates for you to use.
Who will benefit from using History of Science series?
The teacher and the student who are interested in connecting with the face of science will benefit the most from these units. These units will help your students to connect with science on a very real and personal level. The associated living books will make science come alive right before their very eyes, while the guide will help to assure that the student has really grasped the scientific principles introduced.
How does the History of Science series work?
This versatile series can be used as a full science unit or as a supplement to your regular science curriculum. When you use this series as a main science curriculum, you would would work on one lesson per day. If choose to do this, I recommend that you also add in a science fair project at some point in the year. On the other hand, when you use this series as a supplement to your existing science curriculum you would complete one lesson per week.
Either way, we recommend that every student should engage with real life science either through scientist biographies or through current events. The History of Science series can help you achieve this goal.

Yes! Elemental Science will be releasing another unit on Gregor Mendel in the coming weeks and have plans for several more units on the books. So, look for more information on new titles in the coming months!
How can I purchase History of Science: Galen Unit?
Our History of Science series is available exclusively through the Elemental Science CurrClick store at this time. Currently, we have discounted our Galen Unit by 40%, which is a huge bargain! In the future we do plan on compiling several units into a full year-long study of a given area of science.
